Anyone remember Pam Horning, who LLNS appointed Associate Director of Nuclear Operations at LLNL. She was only at LLNL about a year or so. Well she is finally selling her house in the local area…for $1.3 million. She definitely did okay working for LLNS… from the realtor website BlockShopper.

Nuclear industry exec lists Pleasanton 5BD for $1.349M

Pamela A. Horning and Jeffrey A. Horning have listed for sale a five-bedroom, 3.5-bath home in Pleasanton for $1.349 million.
Kim Grass and Lorraine Davis of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage is the listing agent for the house. The 3,853-square-foot house was built in 1997 in West Pleasanton. It is located in Laguna Oaks subdivision.
Ms. Horning serves as a director at EFCOG and vice president at Babcock & Wilcox, Technical Services Group. She has more than 27 years of experience in the nuclear industry.
Prior to this, she has held several executive positions at Energy Facility Contractors Group, Lawrence Livermore National Security, BWX Technologies and B&W Y-12 LLC.
She earned a master of engineering administration from The George Washington University and a B.S. in chemical engineering from Purdue University.
According to BlockShopper.com, there have been 607 home sales in Pleasanton during the past 12 months, with a median sales price of $640,000.

More BWXT/Bechtel type royalty, living the good life while they carpet-bag and pillage their way through all the loot sitting at the NNSA "for-profit" run labs.

Food prices and the cost of energy continue to rapidly rise while lab wages continue to fall.
At least the executive management team can still afford to eat and live well.
The economic data is starting to point to the fact that inflation is preparing to come raging back, 1970s style. It's what the Federal Reserve and our government both want. Figure on seeing 6% general inflation by the end of this year and double-digit inflation (10% ?) by sometime next year.
With a current 2 year pay freeze and additional extensions on this government pay freeze coming due to the horrendous deficit, your lab salary and future pension payout is about to be crushed!
If you had been paying attention you would know that pension payouts come with a COLA pegged to actual cost of living increase in the bay area.
I think the poster, February 1, 2011 11:24 AM, was referring to the fact that pension amounts are tied to the highest 3-year average salary for an employee during his working years. Thus pension payouts at retirement have absolutely nothing to do with annual COLAs for existing retirees. And, salary freezes absolutely affect pension amounts. Maybe you should pay attention.

COLA's are not generous enough to keep up with inflation. Here is what the UC Retirement Handbook has to say about COLA calculations:
The COLA is based on changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The COLA matches CPI movement
up to 2 percent and increases by 75 percent of the CPI movement in excess of 4 percent. Generally,
the annual COLA may not exceed 6.00 percent.
For example, if the CPI increase were 5.00 percent, the COLA would be 2.75 percent, calculated as follows:
CPI increase = 5.00%
COLA matches first 2.00% of CPI increase = 2.00%
75% of CPI amount above 4.00%
.75 x (5.00–4.00) = .75%
COLA = 2.75%
Poster 7:44pm present a pretty good case of just how clueless many of the people are who work at the NNSA labs. He doesn't even know the full story regarding lab pension COLAs and how they will never adequately track high inflation rates.

Definitely not. In current environment probably more than double the median home.
Give inflation a chance to get going with 2 years of of NNSA lab wage freezes and a good chance of 5 more years after that with GOP victories in 2012 and you are looking at the "best & brightest" living in run down trailers within a few years time.

Why continue the dishonest charade any long, LANS Board? Just get it over with.
Crown "Livermore Mafia" member Charlie McMillan the next Los Alamos Director and up his salary to $2+ million per year with generous perks to match the SNL's Director salary. Take the extra money needed for Charlie's upgraded salary out of the lab's 2 year salary freeze and keep this information hidden under the "corporate proprietary" label.
Oh, and don't forget to put bully-boy Brett Knapp into the slot that Charlie vacates so that Knapp can utilize his brazen ass-kicking ways over whole new levels of employees.
When the LANL Director selection comes out, we can all act surprised at the announcement and then get back to the for-profit LLC's main mission as defined by the NNSA -- beating down the morale of the remaining staff and cutting back on their benefits.

LANL is a national security laboratory managed by LANS for the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). It was established in 1943 and is located in Los Alamos, in northern New Mexico.

So it is McMillan. Why are they having a search? Is it just a formality? By the way what is so bad about McMillan?
The LANS Board wanted to put Bernie Madoff in as the next LANL Director, but they discovered he wasn't available at this time. Charlie was their 2nd choice.
Who needs Bernie Madoff when we've got Gerry Parsky?
Mcmillan is a Livermite through and through. He doesn't know, and doesn't want to know, anything about the history or culture of Los Alamos. He is a misfit at LANL, and looks forward only to his LANS-paid Friday afternoon flights back to the Bay Area. Where he can collect his LANS-paid car and drive home and pretend he is a resident of CA. Absentee landlord. No commitment. No passion for the Laboratory he would lead. No knowledge of the people of greatness he would succeed, or the legacy he would bear. Too self-centered to even consider those points. When you talk to him, his eyes are elsewhere. And I know first hand.
Well, then, 9:31pm. You have clinched it. Charlie McMillan is the PERFECT candidate for LANL's next Director. Don't act surprised when the LANS Board dutiful issues their appointment memo to staff:
"Blah, blah, blah.... after an exhaustive search... blah, blah, blah... many fine candidates... blah, blah, blah... best one was right here all the time: Charlie McMillan. Join us as we welcome Charlie as LANL's next Director. We know he has great things planned for this lab!"
